I’ve been wanting to check out this place for a while now. So since Lewey Lake is about an hour and a half (give or take) from Tupper Lake we decided to give it a go. It was worth the trip.
We arrived just before eleven and decided we wanted to attempt the Wild Walk first, since the skies were grey and looked a little rainy. Not knowing what the weather would be like later, we wanted to get the outdoor part done while it wasn’t raining.
We headed to the Wild Walk area from the parking lot and purchased our tickets (you can also purchase tickets at the main building where the museum is.)
When we got our tickets (a cool sticker) we were also given a schedule of special things happening that day. One was an otter show at 11:30. We had a brief change of plans and headed to the center instead of the walk to catch the otter show.
The museum is small but informative. Did you know there a turtles that can live frozen for months at a time!?!? We took the minutes we had before the show to take a look at their indoor “pond” that was cool with some fish, ducks and of course, the turtles. Then we headed over tot “Otter Falls” for the otter show. We had hoped for a little more than just information about Scarlett (the otter) since there were playground balls in her tank… but no they just talked and she just swam. It was till cool though, probably my favorite part indoors.
In the center of the museum, there’s an area where you can draw and paint, I took a stab at a wolf, but didn’t get very far. We spend a little bit of time watching the documentaries they had available and then decided to head outside for the Wild Walk. That was pretty neat, although if I’m honest I expected it to be higher in the trees, with better views of the Adirondacks. But what the Walk lacked, we made up for on some of the nature trails at the center.
After those we headed back to the museum area to get some lunch, instead we opted to end our time there and grab lunch on our way back to camp.
